In the summer of 2002, Mannford Assembly observed its 75th
anniversary as a congregation. The church was founded by
Dulcie Hoffman–a female pastor–who, still today, has
great-grandchildren (and their families) in our church. Since
1927, the congregation has had sixteen men and two women lead
the church as senior pastors.
The original church was in “Old Mannford,” located near the
banks of the Cimarron and
Arkansas rivers. Construction of the Keystone Dam began in
1956. Before the completion of the dam in 1964, the town, along
with the church, was relocated to the present setting. A new
worship facility was built in 1963.
On Sunday, April 29, 1984, at 10:38 A.M., a deadly F-4
tornado with winds over 200 m.p.h., cut a path through
Mannford. The congregation took cover under pews and in the
hallways. In a matter of seconds, more than 250 structures in
town, including our church, were damaged or destroyed. Our
church was in the wake of that chaos, and many members were
injured. One member, Loren Athens, a deacon in our church, was
killed.
The rebuilding and expansion project was completed in less
than a year.
Today, the congregation worships in our beautiful, functional
16,500 square-foot facility. The church has no indebtedness,
and its facilities are valued at more than 1.2 million
dollars.
But the real church isn’t about bricks and plaster–it’s about
people! It’s individuals and families over the past 75 years
who have been sacrificial, faithful, and fruitful people. It’s
the family of this great church that have labored and loved
together, making it a healthy, growing congregation.
Mannford Assembly has a great commitment to the Great
Commission (Matthew 28:19, 20; Mark 16:15). Along with helping
to meet the needs of our local community, our church is
involved in a global missions endeavor to reach the whole
world for Jesus Christ. Presently, we support more than 40
missionaries and ministries on a monthly-basis. We are
involved in numerous outreach ministries on the local, state,
and national levels, as well.
